11TH GRADE

  • Now things are getting serious!
  • Your junior year grades are a key indicator to colleges of the type of student you are.
  • Remember to take the PSAT. Identify areas of difficulty and look to strengthen them before the SAT.
  • In the spring, you need to take the SAT or ACT. There are a couple of available test dates. Sign-up far in advance to ensure you will have a spot at the proctoring site of your choice.
  • Taking the SAT or ACT during this time is important for a couple of reasons. First, it gives you a jump start on many students that choose to waive this chance. Second, colleges use this information for contacting purposes. The more time you give colleges, the more information you will receive.
  • Begin researching colleges that relate to your future career choice. If possible, look to visit the school during the summer after your junior year.
  • Take challenging electives courses. Remember, colleges use your junior year classes as a basis for you as a student. Taking an extra science, English, or math based class will help increase your college recruitment appeal.
  • Keep participating in extracurricular and additional volunteer activities. Write down what activities you have done and where you have worked.
  • Look for and attend college events in the Glendale area.
  • If you need to, sign-up for a 2nd SAT test or an SAT subject test in June.
  • Keep your grades up and study hard!
